Join us for a trivia night at the Sherlock Holmes on Collins Street which is a British styled pub located on Collins Street.

The trivia night is hosted by comedian Janet McLeod and offers winners $50 food & drink vouchers as well as quiz rounds for Jugs of Beer, Bottles of wine etc. Janet is a well-respected comedian and has a way of getting you involved in the night.

The Sherlock Holmes opened in 1985 and the hostelry has been extremely well received, as have its comestibles, ales wines and spirits. So much so that the worst criticism has been that the establishment is too small for the large numbers of discerning citizens who wish to avail themselves of the sundry attractions which this unique tavern affords.

Here is a home for the aficionados of the works of the eneffable Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, where the friendly shades of Dr Watson, Professor Moriarty (a changed man since he went over the falls) and the Stradivarius-playing, opium-smoking genius himself, the Great Detective, await your pleasure.

We will be heading for North Melbourne for the bar of the month to a great pub known for its cozy atmosphere,beer garden, friendly staff, great food, impressive wines and a wide selection of craft and imported ales.

Trivia Night and Steak Night in Windsor

Join us for a mid-month trivia at the Railway Hotel that has been recognised by The Age as one of their Top 10 Pubs in previous years and has great online reviews.

The venue has some great food options and a spectacular deck bar with views of the city and it has Shit Pub Trivia (that is a real name!) with great weekly prizes to be won.

Enjoy one of the best steak nights on Chapel Street with a 250g Porterhouse cooked to your liking with chips, salad and a selection of sauces and mustards for only $25.

Day Trip from Melbourne: Woodend

Outside PTV Hub, Ground Floor at Southern Cross Station

Join us for a popular day trip to the picturesque village of Woodend about an hour from Melbourne by train to enjoy lunch at the Holgate Brewhouse and visit the rural village of Woodend.

The Holgate Brewhouse has a good range of pub meals and has good online reviews and we have booked lunch inside the venue for 1pm. The venue has changed its menu last year and we enjoyed this new menu on our last visit.

The venue has a sunny patio area at the front which is a great spot for good weather and a few drinks. It is also a brewery, public bar, restaurant and hotel under a single roof, so relax and kick-back in the friendly atmosphere of the cosy bar, lounge or patio area.

Woodend has cosmopolitan cafes, book stores an eclectic shopping mix of old and new wares for all tastes, including the award winning vanilla slices at Bourkies Bakehouse, local gourmet treats from the village delis, local fruit and organic veggies and all manner of options for barista quality coffee.

Please make sure your Myki is topped up with the correct fare or purchase a V-line ticket for the journey. We will order lunch on the day at the Holgate Brewhouse with all food and drinks at own expense with a booking at 1pm. If you are driving directly, please add a comment in your booking.

Yarra Valley Food and Wine Music Festival - Shedfest on Sunday

Join us on our exclusive tour to the Shedfest festival that visits some of the smaller winemakers in the Yarra Valley which has plenty of entertainment, food and wine to enjoy.

Every year, on the second weekend in October, the winemakers open their sheds for fabulous food, fine wine, live music and entertainment. Our Shedfest wine tour has sold out in previous years, so we suggest to book early if you wish to attend.

It is the perfect way to meander around the boutique wineries and savour great food, wine and music.

With over a dozen wineries should be participating this year, it is the perfect way to enjoy local produce and the most exquisite local wines.

With expertly matched cuisine, wine tastings and music, you can plan your day progressing from appetizers to dessert with dishes around $10 - $25 to enjoy a range of food options at each winery.

Our exclusive tour will depend on the weather on the day but we plan to visit wineries that will be different to Shortest lunch festival held in June.

We plan to visit 4 or 5 wineries on Sunday in our exclusive tour with the proposed route to be announced. We may change the order or change a winery depending on the weather on the day.

The price includes return transport from Melbourne, transport around our selected wineries and festival entry price for the day that includes tastings at each of the selected wineries and a complimentary tasting glass. All meals at own expense.

Christmas Day Lunch in Melbourne 2026

The Queen Victoria Gardens (opposite National Gallery of Australia), St Kilda Road, Melbourne

Come and join the Melbourne Social Club for a social Melbourne Christmas Day Picnic Lunch in Queen Victoria Gardens and meet new people in Melbourne this Christmas. This will be the 19th year that the Christmas Day Picnic has been run and we expect over 100 people to attend, if numbers are similar to pre-covid years.

There will be no snow but a great place to meet others not participating in the traditional family Christmas in Melbourne.

Queen Victoria Gardens is very centrally located in Melbourne and is located opposite the Arts Centre and National Gallery of Australia (NGV) tram stop on St Kilda Road and is close to Flinders Street Railway Station.

Join the Melbourne Social Club for a relaxed Christmas Day lunch under a shady tree for a free event on Christmas Day to help you meet some new friends in Melbourne at Christmas.

Please bring your own food/drinks, picnic blanket/rug/chair, sunscreen hat etc. and outdoor games equipment - like a football to kick, cricket bat and tennis ball etc, if you wish.

Bring food that you can have for yourself or share with others. It would be also useful if you could bring a name tag as well.

Public transport is free on this day and uses the Sunday timetable.

The Christmas Day social group in Melbourne will be located under a shady tree directly opposite the Arts Centre where you can walk directly down from the Arts Centre Tram stop located on St Kilda Road. It is easy walking distance from Flinders Street train station.

Look for the Melbourne Social Club banner hanging from the tree in Queen Victoria Gardens, walk down into the gardens from the Arts Centre Tram stop on St Kilda Road opposite the NGV/Arts Centre.

Please note: On registering for any Fun, Food & Friendship (FFF) event, you freely engage in the event knowing that FFF and its staff, hosts or associates can accept no responsibility for any loss or damage you or your guests may incur as a result of your participation and freely participate in the activity at your own risk. Members also require a current membership to attend members only events as indicated by Not Available (N/A) under non-members and guests.

Cancellation Policy

For events that require pre-payment, in the event that you cancel after payment has been received a 50% cancellation fee will be charged if at least 7 days notice is given. If less than 7 days notice is given, unless FFF are able to fill your place with another member booking at the last minute, no refund would be given as these events are booked and paid in advance on the numbers taken.

You are at any point able to allow a friend to substitute your place and no extra charges will be added for them as a guest. However this is to be discussed with the staff at FFF prior to the event.

All events are subject to minimum numbers. If in the unlikely event that an event does not go ahead or FFF has a reason to cancel the event, only people who have registered for the event will be notified.

Members and guests shall not hold FFF responsible or liable in any way whatsoever for the cancellation for whatever reason of an event. Where cancellation arises and it is the fault of a supplier of an event, FFF will use their best endeavours to procure the return of the booking fees and any other monies paid by members for such events.
